The number of people that have lost their jobs due to the pandemic hit is growing gradually everyday. With much to worry, Malaysians who are working in Singapore were left in a limbo of uncertainty after being away from work for months. They have some good news to look forward to, as the announcement by a Johor exco gives hope for a better future.

Singapore firms are willing to re-hire at least 75% Malaysians once the once borders re-open.

State Investment, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperative and Human Resource Committee chairman Mohd Izhar Ahmad said this following talks held by the Johor and Singapore governments as well as several employers; the majority of whom owned major industries in the island republic.

In a Social Security Organisation (Socso) programme to hand over aid to family in Johor Bahru, The Johor exco Mohd Izhar Ahmad announced…

“So far, about 75 per cent of them will be accepted back (for employment), with 15 per cent still pending while 10 per cent have decided not to return to work in Singapore.” The Chairman said.

“So, I feel that the problem involving them does not exist anymore as we have made efforts to resolve it,” he told reporters at a here today.” He added.

Mohd Izhar said an estimated 100,000 Malaysians commute between Johor Bahru and Singapore for work daily. We hope our Malaysian brothers and sisters continue to stay strong as we hope for a better future!
