Shameshan Mani Maran is no new name when it comes to the art of perfecting a BGM. Drum-rolling to his next venture Adai Mazhai Kaalam (AMK), we are more than excited about the release of this musical. 

Focusing on acoustics and live music in this film, Shameshan revealed that he used very minimal digital instruments in this movie. Promising a comeback on the semi-classical feel, he has taken the liberty to feature a mash-up of favourite Malaysian songs from 2015 and 2016 with the original singers rendering their vocals in the track.

Wondering why 2015/2016? Now, you have to watch the movie to find out. What we can tell you is, be prepared to be thrown back to the yesteryears of your teenage love. In Shameshan’s words, “We don’t see a better way to pay tribute to these legendary songs and singers than including them in the story-telling of this musical.”

However, that is not all the lowdown we have for you as far as AMK is concerned. Rumors were circulating the Internet earlier this year saying a celebrated singing legend from India would be involved in the musical works for this film. And for once, rumor had it right! AMK would be featuring a track with the voice of the legendary Hari Haran!

Speaking to Shameshan, we learned that Hari Haran singing this track was unexpected. Discussing the musical direction for AMK with director and producer Karthik Shamalan, Shameshan says he playfully suggested that Hari Haran croon said track, as he felt he was being too ambitious. Karthik however found it to be a doable idea and consented the project to take motion.

Contacting the world-renowned singer, Shameshan was told to send in a demo of the track for Hari Haran to determine if he would be interested in carrying the song. Following a harrowing 2-day-long wait, Shameshan received a call to confirm the recording dates in Mumbai.

Accompanied by Karthik and lyricist Yuwaji, the team flew to Mumbai in March and pulled of the recording in 2 hours! For Shameshan, this project was certainly a dream come true as he not only got to work alongside one of his favorite musical giants, but also have Hari Haran sing a song of his own composition.

“It was such a fun project as Hari ji really got involved with the movie characters, while Karthik narrated the story. He was so into it that he gave me multiple options just for a single line singing. In fact he was dancing while listening to the song post recording!” Shameshan shared with us, unable to contain his excitement.

As for Hari Haran, he did not hold back in saying that it has been sometime since he crooned to such a melodious tune. So, we are definitely at the edge of our seats in anticipation of the release of this track!
