A lyricist and a rapper, Malaysian hip hop and rap legend Yogi B is our Malaysia Star Of The Month and just describing his success alone does not do justice as he has been through it all.
Started off with a hip hop group named Poetic Ammo formed in 1974, they went on to win numerous awards after their first album “It’s a Nice Day to be Alive” in 1988. The group’s albums were positively received until it even reached the International markets such as Indonesia and as far as Europe.
Yogi B then went on to release his own album, Vallavan in 2009 in collaboration with Natchatra. Their main hit, “Madhai Thiranthu" brought Yogi B to the international stage at the Star Vijay TV Awards in India which he performed with Natchatra.
Few years down the road, Yogi B was given the opportunity by music director G.V Prakash Kumar. He was to be featured and performed for the song “Engeyum Eppothum” alongside music icon, S.P Balasubrahmanyam with the famous celebrity star, Dhanush in the movie Polladhavan.
His feature in that film started the ball rolling as he went on to perform for songs in many more films including famous box office hits like Ghajini, Kuruvi, Enthiran, and the most recent Darbar.
With all his talent and success, it is no wonder he recently won the Gold Mic Icon of Inspiration for Rap Music in India in October 2019. Not only he is known as one of the pioneers for Malaysian Hip hop, but he has made Malaysians all around proud for making a name in the International Arena.
To our Artiste of the Month (and yours), thank you for your contributions! May your accomplishments soar to greater heights.
