This month, RAAGA is featuring Silambarasan Thesingu Rajendran @ Simbu as our Artist of the Month.
Born to one of Tamil cinema's most notorious filmmakers, T Rajendar, Thesingu Rajender— popularly known as Simbu—started his career as a child artist back in 1984 in his father's production Uravai Kaatha Kili. He also underwent training to sharpen his singing talent.
Since he was a child, Simbu has been looking up to his idol, Superstar Rajinikanth, so much so that he started emulating the legend’s acting style, eventually earning him the nickname, Little Superstar.
As the years went by, he landed his first protagonist role in 2002’s Kadhal Azhivathillai, which was directed by his father. The movie’s success catapulted his fame, and inspired him to do more acting—he acted in more than 26 films; some became hits, some didn’t do so well.
Besides acting, Simbu also sings for movies. Some of his songs include “Evan Di Unna Pethan”, “The Love Anthem” and “Beep Song”, which was leaked online and widely circulated.
More recently, Simbu returns to showbiz with a surprising role in director Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. In this movie, he plays the role of Ethi, the younger brother of Arwind Swamy and Arun Vijay’s characters. Here’s a peek:
Chekka Chivantha Vaanam will be released on 28 September. And if you want more of Simbu, he’s now also working on Maanaadu, under the direction of Venkat Prabhu, as well as Sundar C’s STR 39.
