Malaysian Star of the Month

Rabbit Mac Is Our Malaysian Artist Of The Month

Meet the ever-talented Rabbit Mac. This Tamil hip-hop rapper is our Malaysian star of the month!

He has cleaned up smart since he kicked the local underground music scene open with Provoked, a collaboration with Psycho Unit. Our 35-year-old star’s birth name is
Charles John Macallum.

“I came from Hong Seng Estate, and there was a lot of frustration in growing up there. Most of my classmates are either gone or in rehab, or… I was lucky! My dad was into music and I was in the church choir, so I had other interests going. I stayed clear of those bad influences”, said Rabbit Mac.

His lyrics always had a message about community empowerment. We can see it a lot when he don’t only writes his songs in Tamil but in Hokkien, English and Bahasa Melayu.

Here are his recent achievements:

He was honoured with ‘The Most Influential Record Label’ award in the Vie International Awards, last month.

Throughout the years, his label #PU4LYF has faced multiple challenges. This is not possible without the unconditional love and support of his family, friends, and his fans!

HERE ARE FUN FACTS OF RABBIT MAC:

1) 3 Facts About You

  • Procrastination is my enemy
  • I love roses
  • I have superpowers

2) How will you describe your family support in your career?
My family were very sceptical about me stepping foot into the industry. But now they are so proud of me, they constantly check on my progress. I can proudly call them my pillars. I won’t be here today without them.

3) Tell us a little about your wife?
Oh you mean my best friend? She is amazingly supportive. My strongest pillar.

4) Who are the major people contributed to who you are today besides family and friends? ANYONE?
If someone has contributed to my success they are my blood.

5) Your biggest Phobia of all time?
Claustrophobic (Irrational fear of small spaces).

6) How do you find your relationship with your son?
He is my life. I want to always be his first best friend, his guide and his hero!

5) Do you learn ANY new things from him?
Troyce teaches me new things every single day. He has taught me happiness. He taught me positivity. He taught me that no matter how big a problem is, life is always bright. Look at problems in life from a toddler’s perspective. Their life is always bright because they have zero problems in their head. And that’s one of the many things I learnt. Don’t take every problem like it’s the end of the world. Life is beautiful.

6) If AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraja and Anirudh call you to sing a song for their music album, who will you choose first? and why?

Illayaraja. Because when I meet the legend I want to tell him a legendary story about PU4lyf.

7) Which Malaysian artist's fan are you?

Rabbit Mac - I want to build a label that will break records. I want my label mates to grow and reach sky’s heights. I want to make the whole world recognise Malaysia for the music we make. And this selflessness is what I adore in me. And that’s why I am my favourite.

MC Syze - He made me think, “Wow! Can a Malaysian actually sound exactly like an international rapper?” .

I am a huge fan of him.

8) What are your upcoming projects?
I don’t prefer to share my projects before it’s release. When it’s time, boom! You will be blasting your speakers.

9) If God gives you a chance to change something about you, what that would be?
I would ask God to send me back to the 25-year-old me and I want to tell him don’t doubt yourself because you are going to be  someone BIG, someday. Because the 25-year-old rabbit was demotivated and losing hope. I grew up in an environment where nobody had exposure to the music industry, nobody knew what hip-hop was. People kept telling me I won’t make it through and here I am, proved the world wrong.

10) What is one thing you wanna tell your fans? :)  Any special message?
Never give up on PU4lyf because this isn’t temporary this is Psycho Unit for life. Stay with us.
