Malaysian Star of the Month

Meet Our Malaysian Star Of The Month, Saresh D’seven

The local singer who became an actor.

meet our malaysian star of the month, saresh d’seven

Danesh Kumar, or better known as Saresh D’seven, is currently one of the most talked about actors in the local Indian movie industry. His first Malaysian Tamil flick, Sughamaai Subbulakshmi, was released recently and gained a lot of attention—so much so that fans are creating fan pages of him!

Born in KL, Saresh is currently anticipating the release of his next movie, Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey, which is directed by Shalini Balasundaram. The movie is expected to hit the big screens on 16 August.

Aside from acting, he has also written and performed several popular local hits, which include: “Inni Vendham”, “Ninaithu”, “Yenna Yenna Seithai”, “Maunam Yennadhi”, “Ethirpaarathe Alai”, and “Come’Achi A’Cappella”. Not to forgetting his cover song “Thamizha Naanum”, a tribute for his favourite music director AR Rahman.

So, what else do we know about the man? During our exclusive interview with him, we discovered that Saresh lives a really low-profile life. He doesn’t even own a smart phone! Read on for more...

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your family, and how you got started in acting.

I live in a small family of five, and I’m the second among three siblings. Besides working as an operation manager, I do love to write lyrics and sing. Back in 2014, when I was doing song albums and singing, director Karthik Shamalan gave me an opportunity to showcase my acting skills. And that’s where everything began.

What’s the best Malaysian movie you’ve watched (not including your own, of course)?

I think Maravan and Jagat were the best because of the depth and quality, especially the technical parts.

If your life story is made into a movie, who would you want to play you?

Myself. So far, I’ve played good characters, but they are opposite of who I am. If my life story was made, I definitely want a musical film, which reveals the real me.

What do you do when you’re not busy acting or working?

I listen to various types of music, and play football.

If you had a magic wand, what crazy things you do with it?

I don’t know whether this is crazy or not, but I’ll make my parents stay with me forever. I’d also like to use the magic power to help the poor.

Despite living in a modern era, why aren’t you using a smartphone?

Just because I don’t see the need to be attached to smartphones. I’ll handle all the work stuff on my laptop. And I use the computer to stay updated through Facebook and Instagram. There’s too much negativity on WhatsApp and social media, so I choose to stay away from them, and live a positive and peaceful life. Here’s something you might find interesting—I have a ‘normal’ phone that I've been using since 2005 for making calls and send messages. That's not all, I also bought four extra "normal" phones just in case they get discontinued because they are really old models.

Wait. There’s more about this interesting actor. Check out what happened when we put him through a round of “This or That” rapid-fire questions…
