June 15th, 2020 marks the late Malaysia Vasudevan’s 75th birthday. Having sung more than 8000 songs and having acted in more than 85 films, Malaysia Vasudevan is one of the two pioneers of the diasporic Indian community to make a mark in the Tamil Film arena.

Malaysia Vasudevan was the 8th child of Chathu Nair and Ammalu Ammai and was born in Seremban in 15.06.1944. The producer of his theatre play “Rattha Pei” was keen on making adapting it to film and had brought the cast and crew to India to film the movie. It was at this point that Vasudevan decided his future was in Chennai and discarded his passport to stay on in India.

After a long hiatus and struggling to even have a meal, Vasudevan was spotted by V Kumar and was given an opportunity to sing in the movie Delhi to Madras ( Paalu Vikkura Pathuma). MSV spotted him during a stage show and Vasudevan was given an opportunity to contribute a small portion in the movie Bharatha Vilas. Vasudevan’s turning point came when Kunnakuddi Vaithiya Nathan gave him an opportunity to sing in his composition. However, his major break came when he sang for llaiyaraja. The duo went on to give numerous hits and there was no turning back.

Recipient of the prestigious Kalaimamani award and many other Tamil Nadu state awards, this legendary actor and singer was a man of humility. Malaysia Vasudevan passed on in 20.02.2011 after a short illness from gangrene on his toe. He left behind his wife: Usha Vasudevan and three children.

In memory of Malaysia Vasudevan’s contribution to the Tamil cinema industry and to pay homage to this legendary actor/singer, the Tamil film fraternity is coming together on his birthday for an online event, organized by his son Yugendran Vasudevan. Singers who will be present in the LIVE event include many top singers including S P B Charan, Yugendran, Vijay Yesudass, Bhavatharini, Tippu and many more.

Many celebrities such as Bharathi Raja, Ilayaraja, Sivakumar, Kamal Hassan, A R Rahman and  more will be sending in their video greetings during the event. Yugendran Vasudevan‘s online event is touted to be a biggest online event during the pandemic.

We invite you to be a part of this iconic event on 15 June 2020 at 9.30pm (Malaysian time) on his YouTube channel:
