From the rugged Paruthiveeran to the charismatic Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan and now the spy Sardar, Karthi Sivakumar has built a career defined by versatility. This month, RAAGA celebrates Karthi as our Artist of the Month, recognising an actor who continues to explore different characters and genres while staying connected with audiences.

Karthi made his acting debut with Paruthiveeran in 2007, delivering a powerful performance that immediately established him as a promising performer. Instead of sticking to one particular image, he went on to experiment with romance, comedy, action, family dramas and intense character roles.

Films such as Paiyaa, Siruthai, Madras, Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, Kadaikutty Singam and Kaithi showcased the different shades of Karthi as an actor. His portrayal of Dilli in Kaithi especially stood out for combining high-octane action with an emotional story about a father trying to reunite with his daughter.

He later entered the world of historical cinema as Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan films. With his charm, humour and energetic screen presence, Karthi brought the much-loved character to life for audiences across the globe.

Now, Karthi is back as Sardar with Sardar 2, which hit theatres on 10 September 2026. Directed by P. S. Mithran, the sequel brings Karthi back in his dual roles as spy Chandra Bose and his son Vijay Prakash, expanding the spy-action world introduced in the first film. The movie also features S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath and Rajisha Vijayan.

Sardar 2 marks another action-driven chapter in Karthi’s career, arriving after a series of varied roles that have allowed him to explore different sides of his craft. The film has also generated discussion among audiences and critics, with reactions highlighting both its ambitious scale and areas of criticism.
