jyothika is our artiste of the month!

Born to a Punjabi father and Maharashtrian mother, Jyothika Sadanah came to be on the 18th of October 1978.
Completing her schooling in Learner’s Academy, Mumbai, the actress is a psychology major. Making her acting debut in Hindi film Doli Daja Ke Rakhna, Jyothika went on to break into Tamil cinema through Vaali in 1999. She won the Filmfare Award for the Best Female Debut- South.
Jyothika went on to star in a string of other movies. She even found the love of her life in actor Suriya who is another big name in the film industry.
Starring alongside her husband gave her the best movies of her career, the actress claims. The couple was paired in seven films, namely: Poovellam Kettuppar, Uyirile Kalanthathu, Kaakha Kaakha, Perazhagan, Maayavi, June R and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.

The pair tied the knot on 11th September 2006 and had two children, daughter Diya (born 10th August 2007) and son Dev (born 7th June 2010).
Being happily married, like most females in the industry, Jyothika gave up her career for a while to care for her family. While her husband went on to make a name for himself in the industry, she allowed her career to take a back seat as she decided to be his backbone and add fuel to his career development.

Having almost disappeared altogether from the silver screens, Jyothika made a comeback in 2015 with 36 Vayadhinile, a remake of the Malayalam hit How Old Are You?, for which she landed the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress at the 63rd Filmfare Awards South. Seeing the critical acclaim that the movie received, the actress was inspired to make more movies featuring roles that were close to her heart.

Ever since, the actress has been going wild with her female-centric roles. In an interview in Koffee with DD, Jyothika said her comeback is to help craft her future as an artist and not a heroine.
Some of the hit movies that she has made since her comeback are Magalir Mattum, Naachiyaar, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Kaatrin Mozhi and Raatchasi. Her upcoming Jackpot is currently one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019.

According to the actress, she wouldn’t have made such a comeback or seen such a success if it wasn’t for her husband Suriya’s continuous support and faith in her abilities. Love truly does work wonders. For more inspiring tales, stay tuned to RAAGA!
