Lokesh Kanagaraj is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works primarily in Tamil films.

He started his career with a short film titled Kalam in the 2016 anthology, Aviyal. He later directed his first feature film Maanagaram (2017). His debut film was very well-praised by critics for its uniqueness in the screenplay throughout the hyperlink entertainer.
Following the success in his debut, Lokesh went on to attempt an experiment movie, Kaithi which has no songs, no heroines and a story completely set in one night. This film also marks first installment in his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) franchise. During the production of this project, he got an opportunity to work with Thalapathy Vijay for Master (2021) which emerged a commercial success post-covid theatrical release.
Lokesh's filmography then expanded followed by his collaboration with Ulaganayagan Kamalhaasan in Vikram (2022), the second installment in LCU. He then worked on Leo (2023), a commercially successful film collaborating with Thalapathy Vijay once again and serving it as the third installment in the LCU franchise.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is being an inspiration to most of the aspiring young filmmakers especially for his uncompromising narrative style with relevant commercial element and also the planning in the making of his each film, right from the writing till post-production. Recently, he was announced to be director of Thalaivar 171 which he collaborates with Super Star Rajinikanth.
