4 tips to a budgeted, fabulous deepavali!

Deepavali is the easily the biggest festival that is celebrated by all our Indian brothers and sisters nationwide. It is not uncommon for some of us to over-spend during the festivities and have issues in seeing the following month through. However, worry not, we have some tips and tricks that you can consider this year to ensure your cash flow is healthy without compromising on all the fun and food!

1.    First, pay off your commitments.
Make it a point to pay off all your commitments first. Though some of us may find that there isn’t much left once commitments are addressed. But remember, BONUS! Besides, you can’t put a price on the peace of mind you’ll have knowing you don’t have pending payments to settle. Now, you’re free to enjoy the holidays with your family and friends!

2.    Prepare a budget and make a checklist!
Now with the leftover cash, you have a party to plan! However, you surely don’t plan on using up your entire surplus on the celebrations. So, prepare a budget and be sure to make allocations for miscellaneous expenditures that are sure to crop up during festivities.

Besides a budget, make a checklist of all that you would need to buy and stick to the list! For every item in your list, ask yourself if you really need it, if you can afford it and if there is a cheaper alternative available. Without a checklist, splurging on wants instead of needs has every possibility of happening!

3. Not everything needs to be new

Repeat this as your mantra: Not Everything Needs To Be New!
If you can upcycle decorations, clothes, furniture and every other knick-knack that makes your Deepavali, do it! Keep the cash for the feast and fun experiences that you can share with the people around you.

4. Limit your open house guest list!
In the spirit of celebrations, it can be tempting to invite the entire world to your open house. However, you would do well to remember that it is you who is going to be footing the bill. So, instead of going for a lavish celebration, keep it close-knit! We assure you, your celebrations would be so much more fun and filled with love and laughter!
