Most of us have had our heart broken by what we thought was love, at least once in our lives. For some, the aftermath lasts for what feels like forever while others deal with it better and move on in a jiffy. If you’re one of those people who have just survived heartbreak and are feeling stuck and lost in dealing with the changes and your pain, this article is for you.
Following are 5 tips that you can follow to ease yourself into a new future that is made up of smiles.

1.    Form New Habits
As obvious as this sounds, it isn’t very obvious to those who have just survived heartbreak. Sure, you’re going to need a week or two of down time that you’ll probably spend with a tub of ice cream and hating every romance movie ever made. But once you’re done with that, trying forming one new positive habit a month. In a year, you’d have developed 12 new positive habits that is going to up your resume in the dating game. More than that, you are going to be a better version of you and you’d have no one else to thank but yourself. If you have some #bodygoals, hit the gym. Want to have a better mental space? Meditate! THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT YOUR LIFE THAT YOU CANNOT CHANGE!

2.    Visit New Places
It is going to be tempting to revisit the places and relive the memories that you developed with your previous love interest. However, researchers have proven the fastest way to rewire the brain after heartbreak is to visit new places and make new memories. Although ‘out of sight, out of mind’ does not apply to people, a change in scenery is sure to speed up the process for most!

3.    Make New Friends Or Reconnect With Old Ones
Many of us make the mistake of neglecting our friends when we get into a relationship. Our partner becomes our everything to a point we sometimes neglect ourselves. Once a relationship ends, talking to friends definitely helps us process our emotions and pave our road towards healing. If you find yourself unable to reconnect with your old peers, don’t be afraid to meet new people and make new friends. Remember, no man is an island. We were made to be each other’s support system, so don’t hesitate to reach out and make a buddy.

4.    Get A New Haircut
As cliché as this may sound, this actually works for most people. Spending months or maybe years invested in an emotional attachment with another person often leaves us forgetting our identity as we tend to merge our personalities and characters with the person we are dating. Deciding to get a new hair cut definitely gives you a chance to change up and redefine how you look. As you see the changes in the mirror, your brain will rewire to accommodate the changes and growth that is happening within you. Before you know it, you wont be recognizing the old you anymore.

5.    Take Up An Art
The healthiest and sanest way to process your pain is by expressing it through art. Sure, to some degree screaming at the ocean would help. But there are intricacies of the human heart that only art can penetrate. It doesn’t matter if your art isn't conventionally pretty, because truth be told art is not meant to be pretty. It is supposed to make you feel something. So if you love to sing, find your voice and practice belting those notes. Write some songs while you are at it. Dabble in poetry, workshops, or perform at a recital and share your innermost thoughts in the midst of strangers who are just there to feel something. Get some paint and go crazy. What ever your preference may be, practice an art form.

We hope these tips will help you adapt to the changes post break-up. A speedy recovery from us to you, don’t forget to smile at yourself in the mirror because your really are worth it. Stay tuned to RAAGA for more interesting reads!
