The 76-year-old woman, Shakuntala Gaikwad, tested positive for Covid-19 a few days ago. She was isolated at home but her condition deteriorated and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Baramati, India.
She was declined a hospital bed due the recent spike of COVID-19 cases and the hospital had reached its maximum capacity. As the family waited outside in a private vehicle, the woman fell unconscious and stopped responding, leading the family to believe that she had passed away.

Gaikwad's family drove what they believed was her dead body back home and immediately began planning for a cremation. As the funeral bier was about to be set ablaze, Gaikwad opened her eyes and began crying after finding her relatives were ready to set it on fire.

She is currently admitted at the Silver Jubilee Hospital in Baramati and is undergoing treatment for COVID-19.
