A little kindness goes a long way…and one journalist had set a great example by helping a senior citizen who was lost.

49-year-old journalist L.K.Savantharaja was on his way to work on the Mahameru Highway near the KL Sentral exit, when he noticed traffic seemed a little slower than usual. As he drew closer to the point where traffic slowed most, Savantharaja saw the cause of the crawl — a lorry driver had stopped to assist a senior citizen to cross the road.

As the journalist approached the scene, the lorry driver, in a rush to get to work, handed Savantharaja the senior citizen.

The journalist was joined by another passing by motorcyclist who wanted to assist.

A chat with the senior citizen, who is in his 80s revealed that he was on his way back home by bus from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, after receiving his treatment in the morning. He had missed his stop after falling asleep in the bus.

However, they could not get vital information they had hoped to retrieve — his next-of-kin or his residential address. After checking the senior citizen’s identification card, they found out that he lives in Taman Desa, which was 9 km away.

The initial idea of sending the senior citizen back home by an e-hailing service didn’t put Savantharaja at ease, as he was worried that the senior citizen would be lost again. He decided to send him back on his bike. With the help of the other motorist, he got the senior citizen on to the bike..

The uncle held onto me tightly, like a child, all the way through ”, he said.

After the 30-minute ride the journalist managed to get the senior citizen back home safely. Well done L.K.Savantharaja!
