marriage school now mandatory for non-muslims in johor!

Most see the process of planning and executing a wedding as a needed headache, because everyone needs a reason to party.
However, many forget that marriage extends beyond one’s wedding day and is supposed to last till one’s final breath.
Till death do us part. Right?

However, that hasn’t been the case in recent decades with the rise in divorce rates. To curb this problem among Johoreans, the state government has made a move to make marriage school compulsory for non-Muslims!

Prior to this move, a similar class called 'krusus kahwin' has been mandatory for Muslims in Malaysia.

Following the move to increase the minimum age for marriage to 18 years for both Muslims and non- Muslims in the state, the Johor Tourism, Women, Family and Community Development Committee has taken the liberty to introduce the Modul Keluarga Sejahtera to reduce divorce rates in the state.

Known as the Happy Family Module in English, this will be a family module for non-Muslims in Johor. It is currently being developed in a collaboration between the committee and University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) through the Darul Ta’zim Family Development Foundation (YPKDT)

Once the module is launched every couple that seeks to get married in the state would have to fulfill the requirement of producing a pre-marriage certificate. This was previously compulsory for Muslims only.

CUEPACS recently released a statement that financial woes were the main cause of divorce in Malaysia. Seeing that marriage is about learning to work as a team to overcome such problems, we hope the boot camp module will help combat the issue and bring down divorce rates in the state.

Should other states make this mandatory too? Let us know your thoughts in the comments and stay tuned to RAAGA for more exciting updates!
