In recent study Japanese researchers have found that the coronavirus remains active on human skin for nine hours, this highlighted the great importance of frequent hand washing in the combat against Covid-19.

recent studies show that covid-19 virus survives on skin five times longer than flu

According to the study published in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal, the pathogen that causes the flu survives on human skin for about 1.8 hours while the COVID-19 virus survives on skin five times longer.

"The nine-hour survival of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus strain that causes Covid-19) on human skin may increase the risk of contact transmission in comparison with IAV (influenza A virus), thus accelerating the pandemic,". Quoted in the journal.

Test were carried out on tested skin collected from autopsy specimens, about one day after death, the research team had also found that coronavirus and the flu virus are inactivated within 15 seconds by applying ethanol, which is used in hand sanitizers.

"The longer survival of SARS-CoV-2 on the skin increases contact-transmission risk; however, hand hygiene can reduce this risk," the study said.

We at RAAGA encourage everyone to make proper hand washing part of their everyday life! Washing hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs. If soap and water are not readily available, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. #WeAreFrontliners #IdhuvumKadandhuPogum
