With the Movement Control Order (MCO) being extended to 28 April, Malaysians will now be spending more time at home as they unite in a battle against COVID-19. However, while we do our part and practise social distancing, a group of Malaysians are going beyond to help those affected by the virus.

As part of its #DigiCares movement, Digi has been sharing six stories about the kindness and inspirational acts of everyday heroes on RAAGA… including those of these four men. Now, you might remember some of these faces because they were also part of Digi’s Unsung Heroes campaign last year.

And in case you missed the on-air recordings, here’s a quick recap of four of the featured stories:

Fighting the spread of the virus with drones

With the MCO taking place, many farmers are stuck with a problem—they cannot be physically present at their farm to take care of their crops. Thankfully, Mr Amuthesan and his drone technology have come to the rescue. Using drones, he has created an automated spray system to protect and nurture paddy fields.

That’s not all though. Mr Amuthesan is also using the same drone technology to help fight COVID-19.

Working with DBKL, they’ve been spraying virus disinfectant in Kampung Baru. He’s also leading the research team in matters related to disinfectant efficacy studies.

Keeping the OKU healthy in this challenging time

It’s extra important to take good care of our health right now. However, good healthcare is a luxury that some of us cannot afford. Realising this, Mr Thacanamurthy has been helping OKU staff and volunteers registered under his organisation around Batu Pahat by providing them with 1,000mg vitamins.

The vitamins are provided free of charge—his organisation covered 100% of the cost.

Since the initiative began, My Thacanamurthy has been working with a group of volunteers and Majlis Pusat Kebajikan Malaysia Batu Pahat to reach out to more than 100 OKU. Their distributions include the vitamins, along with masks, sanitisers and vegetables donated by other kind individuals.

Sanitising public spaces and increasing hygiene level of Malaysians

Mr K Bala, the Chairman of Malaysia International Search and Rescue (MISAR), is on a mission to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Together with his team, they are doing this through five initiatives.

Besides offering 24-hour ambulance support, Mr K Bala and his MISAR colleagues are running a Food Aid campaign to feed the homeless. Meanwhile, they are also part of a sanitising team with Environment Work Malaysia Sdn Bhd, providing sanitisation at all MCO checkpoints.

That’s not all—they have teammates serving as the City Hall workers cleaning force, and are distributing hygiene care kits to Klinik Kesihatan and police stations across the country.

Feeding those who cannot afford to eat

A short while ago, the Puthiya Dharma Chakram Foundation, led by Mr Sri Krishna, was cooking and giving out excessive food to the underprivileged. However, that practice has been stopped due to the MCO restrictions… but their desire to help continues.

Now, they’ve changed strategies and are giving out groceries such as rice, dhal, oil, milk and veggies instead. That way, the affected families—especially those with low salary and many kids to feed—can stay home and cook for themselves.

Since they started this movement, they’ve helped put food on the table for 200 families!

These Malaysians—and the many frontliners who are working hard to protect us from COVID-19—are proof that not all superheroes wear cape.

So, what have you been doing during MCO? We hope you're staying home and spending quality time with your loved ones!
