Ramnath RNB : Two Worlds, One Vision

RAAGA proudly spotlights Ram Nath RNB as our Malaysia Star of the Month, an artist who refuses to be defined by a single lane. From the very beginning, Ram Nath has built his identity on exploration, blending sounds, experimenting with genres, and moving seamlessly between commercial appeal and underground energy. For him, music is more than just sound; it’s a reflection of every layer of who he is.

What makes his journey even more compelling is the duality he carries. Beyond the stage and studio, Ram Nath leads a demanding corporate life: one that requires discipline, focus, and constant growth. It’s a completely different rhythm, yet driven by the same hunger. Balancing these two worlds, he continues to push himself forward with a clear vision: to evolve, improve, and build something meaningful with every step he takes.

Musically, his roots began with a strong influence from Western R&B. The smooth textures, flows, and vibes shaped his early sound. But as he grew, he realised that something was missing; a sense of identity that truly reflected where he came from. That turning point led him to experiment with incorporating local Tamil elements into his music. From slang to delivery, from attitude to lyrical phrasing, he began crafting a sound that felt raw, authentic, and undeniably his. Over time, that fusion became his signature: a distinct blend where global R&B meets Malaysian Tamil flavour.

His music is deeply emotional, often drawing from personal experiences and real-life observations. Love, heartbreak, confusion and growth, these aren’t just themes, but lived moments that find their way into his lyrics. At the same time, he looks beyond himself, observing the stories of people around him like friends, colleagues, and the industry at large. By translating these shared emotions into music, Ram Nath creates songs that resonate on a deeply human level, making his work feel personal yet universally relatable.

Growing up, he witnessed the pioneers of the Malaysian Tamil music scene lay the foundation, artists like Yogi B, Darkey, Lock Up and Chakra Sonic. Their presence made the dream feel possible. As his generation stepped into the digital era, alongside names like Sheezay, PsychoMantra, Vikadavi, and the Havoc Brothers, the landscape began to shift. Platforms like YouTube opened new doors, allowing artists to reach audiences beyond traditional limitations. For Ram Nath, representing his identity as a Malaysian Indian artist is not just important, it’s a responsibility to carry forward what was built and pave the way for the next generation.

Like many independent artists, one of his biggest challenges has been funding. While talent is abundant in Malaysia, resources often aren’t. From production to visuals, everything requires investment and for most, including Ram Nath, it comes from their own pockets. Despite these challenges, he continues to push forward, believing that with stronger support systems and proper backing, the local scene has the potential to reach even greater heights.

Looking at the industry today, Ram Nath sees undeniable growth. The Malaysian Tamil music scene has evolved from being labelled simply as “local” to being recognised for its individuality and identity. Artists are now gaining international exposure, and social media has transformed how music travels; breaking boundaries and building global audiences. Within this space, he believes R&B will continue to evolve, becoming more refined, experimental, and globally competitive while still holding onto its roots.

As for what’s next, Ram Nath hints at a new chapter. With upcoming releases in the works, he promises a different side of himself; one that may even revisit the essence of his early viral mixtape days. But beyond music, he is stepping into something more purposeful. He plans to share his journey through classes that combine both his music and corporate experiences, aiming to help others build confidence, direction, and a stronger mindset.

For Ram Nath RNB, the journey has never been just about music. It’s about growth, representation, and building something bigger than himself, a legacy that bridges passion and purpose, and inspires others to do the same.
