For most children, fear of water means staying close to the pool’s edge. For 10-year-old Khaairav Vihant Kumaran, it became the very thing he chose to confront.
Today, the young boy from Kajang stands proudly in the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s youngest Junior Professional Association of Diving Instructors Open Water Diver, an achievement that feels even more extraordinary considering where his journey began.

Born on 26 January 2016, Khaairav wasn’t always comfortable around water. In fact, the ocean once represented uncertainty and fear. But somewhere along the way, that fear was quietly replaced with curiosity; sparked by stories, imagination, and most importantly, the influence of someone who believed in him before he believed in himself.
That someone was his sister, Aarienya.

An ocean lover at heart, Aarienya didn’t just share his dream, she reshaped it. In a rare show of patience and sibling devotion, she delayed her own scuba certification for two years, choosing instead to walk the journey side by side with her younger brother.
She wasn’t just there for the milestones, but for the moments in between, the studying, the doubts, the small wins. From understanding dive theory to mastering safety skills, Aarienya became his anchor, ensuring he never faced the challenge alone.
What makes Khaairav’s story remarkable isn’t just the record...it’s the quiet determination behind it. It’s the image of a young boy choosing courage over comfort, stepping into the unknown, and discovering that fear doesn’t disappear; it transforms.
Each dive became more than just a lesson; it became proof that limits are often self-defined.

Today, as he explores the underwater world with confidence, Khaairav represents something far greater than achievement. He represents possibility, the idea that even the things we fear most can become the paths we are meant to follow.
At just 10 years old, he hasn’t just learned how to dive. He’s learned how to rise.
